Betsy is a Language Arts teacher who supports students as they find their own voices in writing and matches students with books to stretch their thinking. She helps students adapt writing prompts and projects to match individual strengths and goals.
Betsy feels that the key to literacy is seeing it as a two-way communication between author and reader. She enjoys creating moments in her classroom for students to find themselves as both writer/creator and reader/consumer.
Betsy earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Marquette University and volunteered with AmeriCorps for two years after graduation. She went back to school and completed a post-baccalaureate program at the University of Missouri – St. Louis to be certified to teach. On the weekends and during breaks, Betsy can be spotted thrifting and shopping for antiques or hiking and camping. A few times a year, she makes the long drive back to her hometown of St. Louis, MO to visit her family
