Emily holds several roles at Arete, including helping group D begin and end their day well in homeroom, teaching them social studies, and also teaching Science to all of our lower school.
Emily became a teacher because of her love of learning across subject areas. She has been trained in Responsive Classroom, Yoga Calm, and International Baccalaureate and believes in teaching the whole child and fostering a strong classroom community. She graduated from the University of Minnesota, Morris, with majors and teaching licenses in elementary education and Spanish, with a minor in Italian. After working for five years in Spanish immersion, she went to Canada to get her master’s degree in second language teaching. She then taught at Arete for almost two years before taking off to travel and teach based in Copenhagen, Denmark. She is very happy to be back at Arete.
Emily loves spending time outdoors, the environment, reading, and spending time with her family including her cat, Newton. She also enjoys crafting, yoga, practicing ukulele, and running, which all provide opportunities for growth!
