Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is your student/teacher ratio?

A: Our student/teacher ratios are currently 4:1. We have no more than 8 students in any academic study group.

Q: How many students are in the school per grade?

A: This number varies from year to year.

Q: What is your curriculum?

A: Our curriculum has a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) focus and is relevant to Minnesota State Standards as well as the Common Core. Arete Academy provides additional support in the areas of reading and writing.

Q: How do you use technology?

A: Technology is an integral part of our curriculum. We are 1:1 with Chromebooks and our teachers have experience with a number of assistive technology programs.

Q: Are there paraprofessionals or 1:1 support at Arete?

A: There are not paras on staff at our school and we are not staffed to provide 1:1 services to students.

Q: Do you offer tutoring after school? Is it offered to students who do not attend Arete Academy?

A: Yes, we offer tutoring services in math and reading. Tutoring is open to all students in the community. The cost is $60 for Arete students and their siblings and $70 for non-Arete students. Availability is dependent on teacher availability and we are able to tutor outside of our typical enrollment of 6th-12th grade. Please contact info@areteacademymn.org for more information.

Q: Do you offer any other services?

A: We offer consultation and report reviews for families. Please email Molly Dunnigan at mollyd@areteacademymn.org.

Q: What is the tuition for Arete Academy?

A: The tuition for the 2023-2024 school year is $27,800. Financial aid is limited but still available. Eligibility for financial aid is determined by a third party (FACTS Management).

Q: How do I know if my child meets the admission criteria to attend Arete Academy?

A: We accept students who;

  1. Are entering 6th-12th grade,

  2. Demonstrate an above-average learning potential as observed by some combination of neuropsychological reports/evaluations, teacher/professional observations, and/or parent observations. 2e students can be challenging to identify so we don't like to rely on just one component.

  3. Have a diagnosis or educational eligibility of ADHD, an anxiety disorder, and/or a learning disability such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, central auditory processing disorder, dyscalculia, etc. We are also aware that 2e students’ testing results can vary greatly and exhibit unique learning profiles.

  4. The most important consideration is whether Arete Academy can meet each family and student’s individual needs.
