Casual Chess Club

Chess is a strategy game that supports critical thinking and predictive strategizing skills. Michelle, our Arete Chess Master, will start with 15 minutes of instruction in chess strategy/improving your play, followed by an hour or more of playtime against randomly matched opponents. This club is for chess lovers who prefer some flexibility with the structure of the game and tournament play. When students are waiting to play their next match they can participate in a few hands-on activities such as collaborative Lego builds, puzzles, and art exploration.  Sportsmanship and chess etiquette is taught, practiced, and embedded in this beloved game.
